Who is akira?
Akira was the individual responsible for World War III. His psychic abilities are the stuff of legend. If you listen to the universe close enough, you might be able to hear it exclaim 'I am Akira'.

But then:

- How will you know if people get what they claim?
- How will you justify who is more deserving of the title? Eg person 1 has posted 5 times and has gotten 50. Person 2 has posted 809 times and has gotten 49. Who gets the pretentious title here?

(1) Herald Sun Top Achievers ?? (and if theres insufficent evidence .... then they shouldn't get it :o)
(2) .... Put a post limit for the awards... like karma... 50 posts atleast maybe?????

Lol, what would be even more interesting is if someone with a higher mark came along half-way through next year xD
Simple: If your not there at the "award giving ceremony"  (sometime soon after the results).... :D then you shouldn't be counted :)  ;)

I think it would be a great idea to have an "award ceremony" at the Crown Casino Palladium Room

AkirA is not THAT fake guys, it started as a joke, then it turned sour.

just that some people could accept his academic abilities and his arrogance, thats all.
 -never mind-

now as for the award thing, i'd like to remind people a few things:

1. VN is Internet. not a full-fledged organisation
2. there is no way we can gauge someone's results if they choose to withhold results
3. there is no real way we can gauge contribution [post count, karma, irc, notes upload are all variables that as it suggests, HIGHLY varies, attendance to VN meets (whatever that is) is also highly volatile, mainly irc people of established friendships go to that..]
4. last year's cohort were a crazy bunch that migrated from BoS. This year's demographics should be more normalised...

and, people who have significantly contributed to particular boards eventually win the title [enwiabe is not blind]. when you help out enough, dan will see it and endorse you. that's how i became one, that's how elaine became one. [on second thought, this is in fact the only way mods are elected. no mods around are non-contributors to start off with (though i have no knowledge of the early days)]

so the award....? not so necessary in my opinion. someone who has done well who is confident with his/her own skills dont need a  "LOOK AT ME!" banner, because they will already have the respect of the community.

What sort of title would the person get anyway? Like "Physicist" or "Mathematician" or something?  ;)

Or this thread stinks of fail?

You can't rely on voluntarily reported scores. People can simply not report them to the press (and there are some very legitimate reasons for doing this) so cross checking may fail. Same reasons might also restrict them from revealing their personal details.

How about you give you aggregrate before the aggregrate-to-enter table comes out. After the aggregrate table comes out, you are no longer eligible for the award.

Also you must screenshot your results, which includes your whole desktop. You must list your name in the paper for study scores, tell the admin (enwiabe) or a mod that you feel that won't take your privacy for granted.

I think that should do it :) So it's viable :)

agreed

There's so many other valuable contributions you could be giving awards for rather than the 'dux of the site'.

You're asking people to do a lot for something as simple as this...meaning any well-deserved people have no incentive to participate (defying the point of the entire exercise).

I'm sure publishing your score (and having someone aggregate it, like there always is) and comparing it with others is recognition enough.
