Legal or Psych?

Hey guys, I need help in deciding whether to take up Legal or Psychology? I was told that Legal's new study design is much easier than previous years, and Psychology's harder. I'm leaning towards Psych as I have a gut feeling I would actually enjoy it more because it strikes me as one of those super interesting subjects, therefore I'm more motivated etc etc. However, if the workload's immense I will break down and give up, because I'm also doing Chem, Jap, Methods and Eng.

I've also considered re-doing 3/4 BM, as I already have the notes and all I need to do is basically re-apply it in SAC's. I've also reasoned with myself that the 10% will not be much, if I tried harder and got like a better score or something? Good idea or not?

Opinions? Please? Thank you :) xx

I'd suggest you follow your gut instincts and do Psych.  ;)

Every VCE subject has its challenges.. whilst the content in Legal may seem easy, getting a high study score in it may be a totally different story. (don't quote me ;D)

With regards to Business Management, I'd suggest you don't repeat it unless you get a really disappointing score in it this year. There is also a proclivity to slack off and be lazy in repeated subjects.

I am, by no means, the subject selection guru though... Let me show you my subject selections over the years:

Year 10 2009
- English 1&2
- Methods 1&2
- Biology 1&2
- History 1&2
- Science
- Personal Learning
- Latin

Year 11 2010
- English 3&4
- Methods 3&4
- Chemistry 1&2
- Latin 1&2
- Legal 1&2

Year 12 2011
- English 3&4
- English Language 3&4
- Philosophy 3&4
- Latin 3&4
- Legal 3&4
- Methods 3&4 (repeat)

So yeah.. you'll notice I've dropped many, many subjects. But I'm happy with the final 6 subjects.. it was all a process of elimination.

But I warn all of you year 10s out there.. do NOT follow my subject selection sample!  ;D ;D

Do the subject you enjoy. You'll more likely do well in the subjects that you enjoy doing and are motivated by.

do NOT repeat a 3/4. You will be bored out of your brain, and additionally the 10% is so important especially if you are 2 points away from your desired course. seriously. I flunked history 3/4 this year, I have realised I might get 35ish or so but I plan to focus hard on my 3/4's next year and use the 10% as history, leaving another 10%. That's the beauty of VCE.
I'm doing both legal AND psych, and I can tell you, they're both equally boring in year 11 but hopefully in year 12 they'll get better as you become motivated to achieve a good score. I prefer psychology more, but Legal CAN be just as fun and handy... besides you're learning about your own country's law.

I agree with darren94 - don't repeat your 3/4 subject. The first time is probably going to be your best score. If you did repeat your 3/4 subject again, you'd be bored having learnt all the content already. You might as well move on and focus on your other subjects come next year.

Don't get bummed down, if you don't get the score you want for BM - that should serve as motivation to work harder in Year 12. There have been many cases where students haven't done well in there 3/4 subject in Year 11 and yet, ended up with a really good score at the end of Year 12. There is hope yet.

Bah! Really? I was actually leaning towards repeating BM, and I thought maybe, I could use my time in class to revise for other subjects, etc. But I have early commencement tomorrow, and I did actually pick Legal, so I'll probably do it for a few days and see how I like it? Does it consist of A LOT of memorising? I'm better with subjects that I can actually understand, and apply.

I totally regret not putting effort into BM, so I'm so stupid. I'll probably get like a 37 or less V__V merde.

Thank you!! :) :)

In my opinion, if you want to learn Legal Studies properly, you need to actually understand the material... not rote-learning and memorising it all.  ;) So I guess it would still suit you.... but I think you're better off with Psych.

Legal is quite an easy subject to do well in if you look at it, though it involves a lot of reading - that shouldn't deter you. As with any subject, put in the time and effort and you'll be duly rewarded at the end of it all.

Yay, Psych it is :) Thank you guys!

Another question is my social life going to take a major toll in year 12? I'm a very social person, and I did go out almost every weekend this year. How can I re-wire myself into partying/going out less?

Cambridge0012, are you repeating English 3+4 as well, or doing it over two years?

Psych FTW. I found it sooooooo much more interesting than legals.

Legals, for me, was just memorizing SLABS of information. It got me good marks, but shit, so boring.

Though I have to admit, the case examples gave me many lulz.

Another vote for Psychhhhh.

“We are all alone, born alone, die alone, we shall all someday look back on our lives and see that, in spite of our company, we were alone the whole way. I do not say lonely -- at least, not all the time -- but essentially, and finally, alone. This is what makes your self-respect so important, and I don't see how you can respect yourself if you must look in the hearts and minds of others for your happiness.”
