I bought the Essentials textbook since a lot say its got good questions and I also bought the MQ textbook because my school uses it. I was wondering.. well, I'll most likely do my questions out of the Essentials but should I follow their explanations? (heard its not too good when it comes to theories and examples) Or should I learn off MQ and do questions out of essentials?

dont worry about how the book explains concepts and such because the stuff isnt that difficult to learn, i mean even though MOST further teachers are really bad they should be able to explain those concepts in a fairly decent manner.
you would have learnt most of the stuff your previous years of learning maths, namely yr 9+10

^ what he said. It isn't that hard that you need other resources. Don't take advice from me though, I'll probably get a 35 in further!

I'm alright, but Further will hopefully be my 10% this year as I hated the subject and always have, and as a result did minimal study for it. I still managed very good marks on my SACs without much work, so it really isn't hard to get a 40 I don't think. I'll get a 30-something for it probably. Like Swarley said, Further just calls upon basic concepts learn in earlier years with a few new things chucked in. I did methods in year 11 and the trig we did in Further was a quarter of what we did in Methods in Units 1 and 2.

I did Methods in year 11 too! (This yr) I'm dropping it though... I was a B student but I don't need Methods for any of my courses. I'm hoping for a 45+, do you think this is possible? Were you good at methods? Ty

@darren94 For 45+ your looking at making no more than 5-6 marks, so it will be imperative that you do a sufficient amount of prac exams. It is definitely possible for you to get 45+, just dont slack off throughout the year.

Darren94 I was in the same boat as you, going alright in year 11 methods but didn't need it for any of my potential course preferences so I dropped it. A capable Methods kid could easily get a 45 in Further but what Swarley says is right, above 40 in Further is very tight, and basically the low 40 kids and high 40 kids can be separated by a handful of marks on either exam.

Also someting that ive found is that generally students who dont do so well in methods do really well in further. I know it might sound bizzare but i know a a few students who dropped methods this year and picked up further in yr 12 and they are expecting to get scores over 40. And it goes vice versa, so methods/spesh students dont do so well in further simply because it's so easy that they neglect it. I think that happened to me.... Hoping for 38+

Yeah.. Methods was alright for me, but I knew deep inside that I'd end up with something like 25-30 ...I could never crack a B or higher for my exams.. which sucked because I studied. I just don't understand concepts like probability and cos, sin, tan graphs , all that stuff I can do but I just don't get it, if that makes sense. I don't understand methods at all, I just do it and pray for the best. (Probably not the best scheme to follow) Lol. I was a good general math kid so I hope It can translate to do well in further.. :)

Well then i'd say further would be a good subject for you then, the concepts are simple not so complex like methods. And if you study for further you can definitely do very well.
THE KEY IS TO NOT MAKE STUPID MISTAKES IN THE EXAM!!!!

LOL i only studied before sacs and did 10~ sets of prac exams. The main reason for me expecting a 38+ is because i made too many careless errors, if i didnt lose as many on the MC then ill be confident to say i shuold get a 40.
Read the question and then REREAD it if you are unsure, if there are graphs analyse them, look at the axis, coordinates. I lost 3 marks on MC for not looking at graphs properly and looking at the wrong fomula and thus using the wrong forumla. It is those careless errors that are costly. Just dont underestimate how easy it is to lose marks in the exam.
