Complex Trigonometric - Complex Numbers

I can't seem to get the answer to this one.....

Express the following in cartesian form a + ib with a, b real



The answer is 1/2(1 -i tan(a/2))

I first got 1 + sec(a) + cosec(a) but splitting everything up but then I didn't know where to go next.

Help would be muchly appreciated

Hmm. I tried a whole bunch of methods and couldnt get anywhere.

I'll take another stab tomorrow :)

Heheh!! Thanks for replying but I got it all worked out at the end...

You can try working it out and i'll put up the solutions tommorow or someday if anyoen is interested :)

Yeah i got it. Didn't seem so hard once i worked out the method.
