Problem: people here may not necessarily want others to know who they are in real life...

Yeah what I was kind of alluding to.
Solution: You go up by username with a paper bag.

Srsly tho, I'm sure we could find a way to make the award good enough so as to be an incentive to un-anonymous...ise yourself

"make yourself known"?

It doesn't have to be monetary. You could try and get a deal with a book seller and get vouchers for uni books?

It actually sounds pretty neat. I'm sure (given the state of our news media) VN would make it on TV. Extreme exposure to potential members. Essentially, free advertising.
Anything student run automatically gets blown up more though.

Potential Problem: High scorers don't want to be put in papers, dont want to have to go up on stage and receive a prize.
but Premier's awards doesn't make it onto TV and only gets a tiny box in the newspaper..?

EDIT: Good point above.

There's plenty of high scorers from this site that don't really mind getting their name put out there. And if the so called dux of a subject doesn't want to claim it, I'm sure there's plenty below them that will want to claim it instead.

To be honest, people who score highly get awarded enough.

I think a minor bursary should  be offered to a committed member who has scored well given his or her situation, and has been an all round contributor to the VN community. It would encourage more participation, and also allow VN to further establish itself as an aid to balancing out differences in school education :)

Where such money could come from on the other hand, I'm not sure :(

Yeh, I was thinking a community thing would be better. Making a bit of a generalisation here, but I get the feeling most of the top scorers end up being from private schools anyway. Perhaps an award for a member who we think has really made the best use of VN overall in terms of what they have gained from VN (most improvement rather than top scorer perhaps?) and what they have given to it (similar to most useful poster award thingy that has seemingly died away most likely due to enwiabe being too busy to finish it off atm)?

Why is it called Dux :3? Why can't it be called Summa Cumlaude or Magna Cumlaude

Because it's only a high school certificate and this is Australia

Also being known as the Magna Cumlaude could leave you open to a lot of name calling. I don't think I need to explain any more?

LOL so true.
This sounds like a great idea, and it will be bigger than the premier's awards, because (as mentioned before) people would claim that 'it wouldn't have been possible for me to get this ATAR without vcenotes'.
However, I think certain problems may arise. Since throughout this site, very very generous people have taken the time to upload exams and notes from private exam companies - there may be a bit of an issue copyright on some of the materials available on this website, thus compromising it's usefulness.. (which we don't want)
For advertising purposes, however, i'm confident that the majority (MAJORITY, not ALL) of people that take VCE seriously would stumble across this website on their own.
Problem: people here may not necessarily want others to know who they are in real life...
I'm sure they could make it an 'optional' award ceremony?

I've always wanted to have an equity bursary of some kind for a kid who does really well in a year 12 subject in year 11 from a disadvantaged background who is committed to attending university but is up against it because their school is in a pretty poor SEAS category. The bursary might be to pay for books/private tuition etc. for year 12

I like it :)

Are you suggesting monetary rewards?

Nah I wasn't, but maybe a select 2 or 3 could win some kind of prize as well.

I just think the award on its own would be enough to make me want to attend. :)

How do you judge that?
