I'm thinking about doing engineering but I'm unsure as to what type of engineering I want to do. If I go through science do I have to decide which area of engineering I want to major in straight away? The first year for all the engineering system courses are all the same so do you get to choose which area to major in after the first year?

If you do it through UoM, then it's a common engineering year where you'll experience all engineering streams, and then have to pick it at the end of 1st year. Same thing with Monash where they have the common year, however at Monash they go into more depth of each individual engineering area. Basically if a course is called Bachelor of Engineering, then it will have a common year.
Religion and Society (38), IT - Software Development (45) English (35), Chemistry (49), Methods CAS (48), Specialist Maths (50)
ENTER: 99.15

2010 - Bachelor of Science(Maths)/Engineering(Chemical) - Monash Clayton

It isn't called bachelor of engineering, it's bachelor of science. So if you want to major in an engineering system then you don't have to choose which one until the 2nd year? That sounds good to me.

You don't even have to choose until the end of second year, really. Most streams only have 1-2 subjects at second year level, so you can take the required 2nd year subjects for 2-3 majors, then pick one to do in third year.
