is this reasonably achievable?
i know that you have to do well and all that jazz, but are there many people who actually get to do that?

Yes plenty of people have done internal transfers to law. You technically need a distinction average but because it's so competitive, I'd advise you to go for a 78+ average just to be competitive.

when I went to the Monash Open day in 2009, at the law information session the lecturers said that about 1/2 of the law cohort came from transfers. apparently this was to get students who proved that they were hard-working and could achieve well at university.

Cutoff was 78% this year. It'll most likely rise. So, HDs if you're really keen.  Monash is trying to get it's main intake from VCE and so are accepting a much lower level of transferees.
