In BSc, apparently not anymore. :( Although you can still do the subjects required for a double major, you can only be officially listed for one major.

Yeah when i last called they said it wasn't allowed.. Even if one had done uni subjects in year 12, they still cant :(
2010 VCE: psychology | english language | methods cas | further | chemistry | physical ed | uni chemistry || ATAR: 97.40 ||

2011: BSc @ UoM

Y1: biology of cells&organisms | music psychology | biological psychology | secret life of language | creative writing
    || genetics&the evolution of life | biochemistry&molecular biology | techniques of molecular science -.- | mind,brain&behaviour 2

Is a double major possible for arts?

Yeah. Doesn't really matter though; it's just bureaucratic. I'm sure no employer is going to turn you down if you write both majors on your resume and can prove you've completed both subject-wise.

Your transcript is more important than whatever you write on your resume, if you take subjects in two fields it's functionally very similar to having a double major

Technically I'm almost doing three majors. My major is Mathematical Physics, but if I did Discrete Maths instead of Metric & Hilbert Spaces (which may happen if this subject scares me too much) then I would satisfy the requirements for an Applied Maths major and if I did computational physics instead of sub atomic physics then I would also satisfy the requirements for a Physics major.

ha you cant do that. then that would mean ive already satisfied a major in molecular bio and that would also mean if i did a slightly different chemistry unit and did one other unit i would satisfy a major in biotech. so you can't really look at it with that perspective.

Metric & Hilbert Spaces
That sounds like an awesome subject, I think it's in the pure maths major as well. This may sound a bit noob, but what exactly is a Metric & Hilbert space? :-\

I'm not a mathemagician but Hilbert spaces let you consider and calculate vectors with n levels of coordinates (therefore standard 3D space is just one form of them). No idea what a metric space is.

think a metric space is a space with the concept of a distance between points

Just look at this and compare:

Applied Maths

Metric & Hilbert Spaces

For one you don't sound like a noob. I have a vague idea of what a Hilbert Space is, it is an vector space of infinite dimension. As for a metric space, I know that metric refers to distances (in Maths, distance is more abstract than real world distance). This subject sounded very interesting and I know that more advanced quantum physics uses Hilbert Spaces to define all kinds of weird stuff. Why I'm scared is because I'm not strong in pure Maths (you don't really do pure Maths until first year university ) and a few friends (who are pure Maths majors) say it's the hardest of the pure Maths subjects. I'm only averaging ~65 for my pure Maths subjects, meaning my best possible score may only be ~50.
