jacks tutoring

has anyone been to jacks tutoring in Springvale??
And what is it like to be in the class?
Apparently I heard his notes are really good, but not sure about how well he can teach.
the price looks pretty cheap and affordable, I hope you guys can help me with this one

He is a very good tutor. he will teach you the foundations and provide you with great notes.
If you live nearby, then i would recommend you going to him.

I've been to his tutoring for methods (09) and spesh/chem in 2010
BTW: please don't take my scores as any reference to his tutoring, solely my fault.

His class essentially comprises of two parts
1) Notes: Prior to starting questions he writes up comprehensive notes on the board (that complements his notes handed out, although the hardcopy is a lot more detailed) which imo are pretty good with easy to learn concepts and techniques that are the foundation of a good understanding of the topics, with a consistent speed throughout the course.
2) Questions: In each 'set' that he hands out (usually 1 set per 1-3 weeks of tutoring depending on which topic and other variables) there are questions that thoroughly tests the knowledge of the topic of interest with both easy and hard questions.
During exam time he gives out very detailed answers (prepared by himself) for the vcaa exams and revision sets that are excellent testing foundations to application questions

The tutoring is very informal and is quite enjoyable to go to (he jokes around a lot with his stories and what not) and questions are encouraged to endorse a solid understanding of the course.

The class size is usually between 40-80 people with even more during exam times (this is when it gets cramped and sometimes you have to sit 3 to a table rather than 2) but if you get in early it should be fine.

Classes start from afterschool (4:30 -->) and on weekends early in the morning (9 ish) but of course u can call him for times etc.

The class goes for 2 hrs costing 20$ (assuming prices don't change) and in my opinion is worth it if you're in/close to the area for easy access. There are plenty of classes for each subject making it more flexible to go to. Some people even go to his classes with travel times of 1hr+
Also you don't need to 'sign up' or anything like that, it's simply -come whatever day and pay 20$ in the end- no commitments (which is what I like most).

I have nothing good to say about jacks... notes are ok, the teaching itself is cringe-worthy. Unless you're really desperate for tongue, i wouldn't waste my money or my time. You have to arrive early to get a spot, and the 2.5+ hours you'll spend incl. travel can be better used IMO.

Unfortunately, I haven't really heard anything good about Jack's tutoring. The majority of people I knew only went because it was entertaining, and didn't really benefit from his teaching style and method.
Ultimately its your call, but I think it would be more worth you while if you studied by yourself or with friends.

insight into Jack's tutoring sessions

I went to one session of Jacks. While people like him and find him engaging/he caters well to explain concepts most purelogic/mathematical minds (i.e ASIANS) have trouble with, he's personally not for me. He gave me all the notes for the whole term even though I went to one session though, so business wise its quite worth it.
But he's sooo overrated and now Jack's tuition is more of a trend for everyone.

This is funny.

Every time there's a thread about Jacks, you're there talking about the mediocrity of his notes.

I honestly have no clue which notes you've 'seen'.

Still, lets be honest, Methods wasn't a subject you enjoyed. Therefore, you critiquing his Methods notes would be like me critiquing something English related.

Furthermore, you don't do Chemistry, Physics or Specialist so I don't think you can be a judge about those notes either.

A lot of the people on this forum go to prestigious private schools and shit like that, but when you go to a school like ours, going to Jacks really makes a a difference.
