Hi everyone.

I was wondering if anyone doing Commerce at Monash could link me to the textbook list that is used in first-year. If not, could you please tell me the titles of some of the textbooks that are used.
I'm planning on acquiring them as early as possible in order to get ahead.

Sam

Each unit has its own booklist... it depends on what units you're doing, not on the fact that you're first year.

Also... booklists haven't been released yet.

If you are doing accounting or microeconomics, I can assure you you are already ahead.

Accounting: Principles of Accounting and Finance http://www.lib.monash.edu.au/collections/monash-authors/2010/9781742167008.html

Microeconomics: Economics by McTaggart, Findlay and Parkin (I think 6th edition is latest). If you are not going to do Macroeconomics later on, just buy the microeconomics text by the same authors.

Bus stats: lecture notes sufficient

Management: Management by Samson and Daft (3rd ed)

Don't know about the others.

It's not necessary to do anything before the semester start for either subject because you won't know what to read (unlike VCE you don't go through the whole textbook but read certain sections). Accounting is basically VCE accounting taught from scratch. Micro doesn't follow the textbook chapter for chapter and your most useful resource will be lecture slides.

Yep, the whole accounting book (~12 chapters) is covered in the semester.
