A precipitate of Fe2O3, of mass 1.43 g was obtained by treating a 1.5L sample of BORE water. What was the concentration of iron, in molL-1 in the water?

Work out the amount of Fe in the precipitate (find mol of precipitate produced, and then find the percentage by mass of Fe to find the mol of Fe). Concentration = mol/volume, so the concentration should be (mol calculated)/1.5 L.

n(Fe2O3)= m(Fe2O3)/M(Fe2O3) = 1.43/159.6882 = 0.00895495

n(Fe) = 2 x n(Fe2O3) = 2 x 0.00895495 = 0.0179099

[Fe] = 0.0179099/1.5 = 0.0119399 = 0.012 M

2 mol of Fe is present in 1 mol of so after uve found n() u multiply it by 2.

no wonder i didn't get it right. i had my molar masses wrong. had 2 oxygen instead of 3.
