Hey guys, this is the thread I'm going to put all my questions and answers for BM in, so I can get some advice from you on how I've answered questions and how I should answer them and so on. :P

One question - do you have to provide real-life examples to support your answers? Or do you only have to do it when the question is referring to a particular case study/organisaton/etc?

Only if the question asks for it. Mainly you refer to the case study they give you and base your answer on that. So if it gives you a scenario about a person managing a charity organisation and they asked you to suggest three skills that would be needed you'd relate each skill you discuss back to the person managing the charity organisation.  Otherwise it'll say "provide an example of an organisation you have studied this year" if it doesn't want you to use the case study.

In the exam it is essential to use a real life example for every question you can. Show the examiners you know more than the rest of the state. So for ALL definitions use an example.

I find that nowadays the questions are a lot more direct and ask specifically about the case-study. If they ask about the case study, that's all you need to talk about. In the rare case that it's not, then I'd use one. Otherwise you're going to run out of time supplementing every answer with an example from both the case study and a real-life example, which is really just overkill. If you've got more time left over and have already elaborated as much as you can, then that's when I'd chuck in real-life examples where ever possible. I only used one real-life example on my exam and that was on a definition question.

Shinny last year there was a question I think about suggesting two operations management strategies for an organisation where the case study gave no information. As such I used real life examples. I think it's important to now examples of each key definition or 'strategy' especially considering the new study design has more case studies with much less information.

Well all along you've needed to know all the definitions. And yeh, I learnt examples for practially every concept in the course. It's just that I realised you often don't get that much of an opportunity to use them. Not sure about the new study design/new exams though. Regardless, if you're aiming high, you really should have them on hand because you don't know which concept you're going to need an example for.

Yeah it's good to have a few examples up your sleeve, especially for Ethics and Social Responsibility. Most schools would/should go throughout the year using examples so that you can understand it a lot easier seeing the strategy/theory used in real life. If you get to the end of the year and you are still stuck, it's not too hard to find some examples for anything you're unsure about.
