AOS 1 question...

hey everyone..

i have begun making some notes for AOS1 and i have done every dot point on the study design and the only thing my textbook or A+ hasnt covered is this one:

•   Typical management functions in large scale organisations, including operations, finance, human resources, marketing and research and development:

could someone exlpain to me :)thans alot

shinny has a bit on human resource but that was all...
i found from some othr notes a small bit on 3 of the functions...

You really only need to know Operations Management and Human Resource Management which will be covered (it is a massive AOS) at the end of Unit 3 and the start of Unit 4. As for finance/marketing/r&d/i.t/logistics etc. you need to have a brief understanding of its importance to an LSO but you do not need to go into detail (it is not required).

In actual fact, it is what you wrote. Functions are merely different departments of an organisation. The ones you will study are Operations and HR. I cover both pretty extensively in my notes so I would highly recommend reading them, but for AOS 1 SACs ,I don't think much is required about them at all, besides that they exist.

Nah wasn't insulted in the slightest. Um TBH, its not necessary for AOS 1 SACs, and may just confuse you.

I had a question in my AOS 1 SAC related to management functions (Question 6 - Describe three different management functions that would be required by the LSO; 3 marks). So you should have a brief idea of each function in preparation of the first SAC

@_avO, il ask the teachers what they feel when i get back to school, and if it will feature heavil on the sac but there is nothing in my Business Book and im using the one written by Barrile and Cameron 8th edition? hope that made sense

It's pretty simple when you think about it, businesses split it's departments up so that it can be better managed, for instance
 - finance is in control of the money side of the business (duh),
 - operations is in control of materials, products, services etc (you'll learn more on this later on),
 - human resources is in control of employees, by determining who is to work at a certain time, contracts etc

Correct, and if you can explain any function on the spot like that you'll be fine (Apart from HR and Ops, but you don't need to know too much about it until later on)

Correct again! The call in a Management Function, as it is the function they perform in their own areas

There was a question on last year's exam on management functions, but really you don't need to know much about each individual function, just realise their necessity in an LSO and have a brief understanding of what each function does.

Also, if you're confused at all, AOS 2 is about management structures, one structure being called 'functional', so you will get a better idea of what the term function means. But I'm sure you already have it covered thanks to luken93, Burberry and _avO.

Yeah don't stress too much Ben if you don't know what we are talking about, I remember joining a thread like this this time last year, and it all seemed very confusing, but rest assured BM is very easy to grasp!

And you are also apart of this flash, we ALL worked together last year!
