Anyone planning to do Bioengineering?

You have to take a different pathway in Biomed if so.

I think I will pass.  You have to take the hard maths.  :S

If you studied it properly you should have very basic conversations in like a week of studying ;)
Uni will ensure you will know more then just 'very basic', they teach it effectively I've heard, i'm sure you aren't that bad !

That's er, pretty ambitious to say the least :p

Ha, yeah I saw that. I won't be choosing that one either :)

Any recommendations on subject order?

Like you have to choose which semesters to do 'Calculus 1' and 'Experimental Design and Data Analysis'.

I am thinking maybe to do Calculus first, because then it could help out with Physics in Semester 2?

People generally do Calculus 2 in first semester, since for most people it's the most basic maths subject and needs to be out of the way quickly so you can apply the knowledge elsewhere. If you have to do Calculus 1, that's sort of lagging behind as far as course planning is concerned (since calculus opens a lot of doors if you want to change what you're doing), so you'll want to get it done ASAP. :P

Since you're doing biomed, you're going to do Physics 2: Life Science and Environments, which uses pretty much no calculus from what I can remember.

Did you enjoy Physics 2: Life Science and Environments? Much harder than vce physics?

btw, you only need to do Physics 2 if you did vce physics 3 & 4, otherwise you do physics for biomed.

Doesn't really make much difference, calculus doesn't overlap with physics much at all (other than basic algebra/differentiation). I'd do calc1 first, some of the stuff in EDDA benefits from it but there's not much to worry about

This.  Calculus 1 is best done is 1st semester.  Maths at uni is a little bit unique compared to other science offered (eg. handing up assignments, etc).

Also, make sure either Iain Scott or Deborah King is your lecturer.  If either one of the Alex's is your lecturer, then you'll be in for a hard semester.  :)

P.S.   Iain Scott is the BOMB!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I don't understand all the love for Deb King. Someone explain that to me, she was the bane of my first semester. Julie Frearson was amazing and the best tutor ever though

Cos she is the coordinator for Calculus 1.  Of course you need to "love" her.  And she does teach Calc 1 very well but Iain Scott is the BOMB!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Does Iain Scott teach calc 2 and/or accelerated maths 1? He sounds pretty good :)

I think he can but doesn't.  I've only seen him lecture Real Analysis, Calc 1 and be a tutor for Linear Algebra.  I think he does more subjects but I probably haven't heard (yet).

And yes, I would sincerely rate him as one of the best in the department, although John Sader would come close to knocking him off his perch.

I personally enjoyed the concepts and such a lot more than Physics 1 and VCE Physics, mainly due to the fact it was linked to human body stuff. It's harder than VCE Physics in the sense that you need to grasp the fundamental concepts a lot better to understand what you're doing, and it's less calculations, more concepts based.

Sounds good. I found vce physics to be extremely dry. It was definitely my least favourite subject.
Hopefully I'll remember it well enough to do well in Physics 2: Life Science and Environments..
