My mate wants to know if there is any disadvantage of enrolling in all your subjects (for each year) now?

He wants to check that the system accepts his combo of subjects for a potential double major.

The disadvantage is that it's a pain to get rid of them all when he invariably completely changes his entire course plan many, many times over the course of his degree. So long as you've done all the major subjects, done all the prerequisites for the major subjects, done at least 4 breadth subjects (including at least one not at first year level) and done 300 points all up, it will be fine. Melbourne won't acknowledge him as having completed two majors, though.

There are plenty of majors that don't have chem as a prereq but if you want to get into grad med/dent then you're going to need to study it.

how do u change your subjects after youve enrolled in them?

Instead of selecting "add" select "withdraw" on your admin page. That said, there is zero reason to select subjects beyond this year.

You want to do medicine/dentistry, but don't want to study chemistry? Just a thought, but you might be looking at the wrong career, lol. :P

I don't mind Chemistry, its definitely do-able. But looking at the different subjects the course offers, they just seem more appealing :)

You put Chem 1: Fundamentals for semester 1, then Chem 1 for semester 2.

As for summer semester, don't worry about it now. You don't have to enrol in 2011-2012 summer subjects until late November 2011.

To fulfill the second year Biochemistry prerequisite for the MD at UoM, you'll need to do Chemistry in first year.

Going by experience, you enrol in Fundamentals in Semester 1, and Chemistry 1 in Semester 2. The system probably won't let you enroll into Chemistry 2 without the Chemistry 1 prerequisite.

Then if you get 80%+ (or whatever) in Fundamentals, you'll receive an email with a letter from the Chemistry first year's coordinator, giving you the option to take Chemistry 2 in second semester without doing Chemistry 1 first. If you take that letter to the EPSC, they'll fix it up for you.

You don't enrol into summer till near the end of this year.

Yup. Biology of Cells and Organisms in Semester 1 and Genetics and the Evolution of Life in Semester 2.
