I started preparing for chem fundamentals, just working through page by page of a massive textbook lol, figures,

the assessment for Spanish "continuous aural, oral and written assessment 50% (2,000 words). final written examination of 2,000 words 50 % (2 hours).

This subject has the following hurdle requirements:

    * Regular participation in tutorials is required with a minimum of 75% attendance.
    * All pieces of written work must be submitted to pass this subject.

Assessment submitted late without an approved extension will be penalised at 10% per day and in-class tasks missed without approval will not be marked."

Writing a 2000 word essay seems steep considering I dont know how to say hello, wait is it hola?

To be fair, it's the last time any of them will do any preparation over summer, so let them attempt to put some effort in while they still can. :P

Though it's nigh on useless preparing for uni the way you do for vce. It's so much more intense and you don't have access to the resources you do in vce, which is why none of us bother to spend 30 hours on the holidays figuring out the first 2 weeks of lectures. ;)

Science, decided.
Letting Biomed slide off, I don't think I'll bother formally rejecting it.

HELP:
I'm actually having so much trouble deciding breadth now! Since doing a language may be too much, and I'd want to do philosophy subjects for interest, but I'm a pretty poor writer and I wouldn't be able to do a closed-book written essay/exam in these subjects. Better that I'm writing an essay from home with resources and can get it checked and that, so avoiding them..
Now looking at Poetics of the Body subjects (includes like rethinking the body), or media&communication (like media&society)? Anyone know much about these or something else that a poor English student could get a potentially good score in?

How did you go in EL?

The linguistics subjects look very interesting and are something we are acquainted with.  Also Dr Jean Mulder is renowned.  And they have a good balance of analytical sciency stuff, but will also have some writing.

Overall, I think they are a good choice for me.  I will probably be taking them this year, and depending on how I go, I may continue with them next year, or do some other breadth subjects otherwise.

Don't take something too hard or stuff you are completely unfamiliar with.  It is all good for people to say 'try new stuff' and 'it will be boring doing science themed breadth',  but at the end of the day, you want to get into a medical degree.

So doing subjects that will give you the best grades to achieve this is rather important.

Choose something that you will enjoy, but at them same time, try to ensure you can score relatively well in it.

Also, if you want to experiment, then do it in first year, as it is weighted less on your final GPA calculation.

^ oooo
I did okay in EL, worse than what i was hoping for :( (unit 3 let me downnnn).. and it took me until the very end to learn how to do the essays which i was quite good at the end, except screwd up the exam one ha.. except unit 4 was always pretty good, hardly lost marks there. So I could probs do something in this area..
What subjects were you thinking of doing?
from that breadth track - Tte secret life of language for sem 1 (seems like a studyable exam perhaps) or phonetics (seems pretty dry and ROTE learning though)... and syntax (take home exam!!) for sem 2 seems pretty good.

EDIT, been searching through some breadth and i found https://handbook.unimelb.edu.au/view/2011/LING20011
not only is it level 2 with no prereqs so it wipes off our lv2/3 breadth requirement, but its very similar to what we've studied before in EL !!!! i think i'll do it.. i attached a copy of 2008 exam of the same subject, omg i could do most of it lawl

Take home exams are way harder than you think they'll be.

Pick a cool breadth, I chose mine based on anything that looked interesting in first year. The philosophy subjects are pretty good, you don't need to be a genius writer as long as you can answer the question

Is there sometimes problems with the portal subject thing? I'm trying to enrol into "grammar of english" as it says it has no prereqs in the handbook but i can't in the portal
"This subject has a Pre-requisite of 12.5 Credit Value in LING%, MULT10005, MULT10004, MULT10007, MULT10008, MULT10001, MULT10006, MULT10003, MULT10002, and Year Level = 1 that has not yet been met."
.. Which is clearly not true according to handbook.
How do i fix this and enrol for first semester?
