Yep, Running around like crazy trying to squeeze into heaps of lectures, I was like a minute late 8-)

Did you stay at the end when everyone asked her questions?

I left when the flood of people began to leave to go to the second medical sequence lecture.

I didn't have time to ask questions then, but I did send them an email before outlining my concerns etc.

I'm particularly drawn to the practicality of some linguistics skills when I'm *hopefully* practicing a health science in more diverse (in terms of language) regions of the world where perhaps English skills are on a completely different level.

Yeah, if you take the linguistics one it will certainly help.  I am really looking to hone in on my english skills, so I will probably be doing the more English orientated stuff.

But yeah, it will improve your writing and communication skills, and really teaches you a lot of the mechanics of how conversations work.  This probably allows you to make more informed judgements of what exactly your fellow interlocutor(s) is/are seeking from the exchange.  :)

haha I actually think I saw you stonecold. I was in the first session too, I wanted to walk out though but thought it'd be too awkward haha. Were you wearing grey and walked in with another guy with red hair? Cos that's the only person I saw that slightly resembles your fb photo. I was in the middle of the theatre wearing a flanny. P.s. I'm pretty I saw loppol like 5+ times when I was walking around haha. But I don't he knew I was a VNer.... :D

haha yeah I don't get the online blog and yet it counts 30% WTF. The lecturer for body mind and medicine was cool and left me somewhat interested, but when the guy in green mentioned stuff like "irrigation" and "climate change" I wanted out haha.

I think I'm doing accounting/principles of business law for breadth, those lectures were great.

Yep!!! That was me.  :P  It is soo much easier to spot people from inside the theater.  I didn't catch you.  There are so many people on here dammit.  I am all for ninwa's badge idea (except for the part where we all wear gay badges lol) so I can know if someone is from here.

And yeah, lololol andrewloppol!  You can spot him from miles away.  I was so confident it was him, that I just went up haha.  Also saw a few others which was good.

And yes, some parts of that lecture I just did not get.  The pommy guy was cool.  Green shirt dude was meh.

You know that semi fat lecturer guy who was at the edge of the theater, did he look like Cameron from Modern Family or what!!!

I was so distracted by him lol.

Say vexx, why 4 breadth this year?
Because for medicine the year you complete a subject is what matters and so first year counts the least - wouldn't want to destroy my GPA so doing it first year since I'm not sure how I will do.
It'll be an interesting year ;)

Haha mad!  I swear the linguistics lecture was like the only good one.

The presenter was pro.  Did anyone hear those words from indigenous languages just roll off her tongue!

For semester 2, I am unsure of whether to take 'Intercultural Communication' or 'Grammar of English'.  I wouldn't mind taking the latter and quickly getting rid of the level 2 subject. But there is still time to think about it.

As for UniBreadth subjects,  IMHO, I think the best ones for biomed people look to be 'Genetics, Health, and Society', 'Body, Mind and Medicine: A Dissection' and 'Seeing: The Whole Picture'.

Will definitely consider doing some of them next year.  These are level 2 anyway so they take care of the requirement.

Anyway, I am officially like 7% of an Arts student.  :P

Pretty sure that Grammar of English is semester 1 only otherwise I'd do it over 'syntax', but yeah go intercultural communication as it, like the secret life, is very similar to EL which is nice - you'll smash both!
and the genetics one seems like a good choice as Russ has said all that stuff, and I think the 'seeing' subject seems good as too.

Yeah, I will probably do that then.  But still loads of time so no need to worry.  I went to the German lecture out of interest, and OMG, that guy was so funny!  He nearly had me on board haha.  It was also funny when he was bagging out VCE German and saying it was crap, and that they have to unteach you some of it lol.  Really honest guy, and he had the authentic accent to match, which is definitely a must!

And yeah, seeing as you have already done chem and can get credit, I would definitely take more breadth this year and get them out of the way.  Good move.

Can you do that as a science breadth? It looks interesting to me too.

haha I was like 50/50 on whether it was you or not. But yeah, loppol was the first VNer I spotted (pretty easily too haha) and then he seemed to just pop up everywhere I went haha. Considering you were the guy in the grey, I actually right walked past you when you were heading out towards grattan street later in the day (with loppol if I recall correctly? Once again, he popped up haha), I was going towards the biomed library.. I was like there's the guy who could possibly be stonecold haha. Didn't wanna say anything cos if it wasn't you that'd be the most awkward situation :P

hahaha And yes, that guy looked EXACTLY like cameron off modern family! I knew he looked familiar haha. What is it with all these modern family lookalikes?! They're everywhere haha.

I agree, pommy was cool, he gave off a good vibe. But still, I think accounting has won me over for first year :D

I tried enrolling for Chinese 1A for breadth and it doesn't let me tick the box :S

It comes up with: "Enrolment is not allowed because the non-study package requisite conditions for CHIN10005/1/1 have not been satisfied."

Having a similar problem trying to enrol into my breadth subject, Introductory Microeconomics (ECON10004).

I keep getting this message:
(Image removed from quote.)

Re Point One: I'm assumung this message is coming up due to the fact i did English Language; the handbook (https://handbook.unimelb.edu.au/view/2011/ECON10004) states that the English requirement can be fulfilled via any VCE English.

Re Point Two: The handbook and even the guy at the info session today both make mention of these subjects being availiable as breadth outside B-COMM.

I get this error too. :(

Haha awesome - why not do it;) A language would be fun! but too much work to get an awesome score though.. yay for VCE being shit !

ahhh ok need opinions on breadth (from anyone):
either Creative writing or Genetics, health&society
- Will probably enjoy creative writing more as i like writing, but may not do very well.. and I can always write in my own time - but this will help me get better! Since GPA is important genetics may be more sensible to do except I haven't done any Bio since grade 11 and probably wont cover too much similar genetics stuff doing the first bio subject alongside, so is it worth doing? will it still be easy for me?
ahh only till end of week!

If you want to boost your GPA as high as possible, save GHS until 2nd year because for a science student it's not particularly hard to get an H1 in. Also, if you haven't done bio for a while, you lose the edge that allows you to sit out the first month of lectures.

Do creative writing this year, it's good fun and nobody is expecting miracles of you.

APPROACH ME, INTRODUCE YOURSELF.
YOU NEED SOCIAL SKILLS TO BE DOCTORS ANYWAY :p.
Let the rant begin
haha I'll go up to you in O week then! I didn't think you'd know me on VN though, so I didn't say anything.

There's so many VNers in biomed though! Me + stonecold + loppol + cameron_15 + mandy + stroodle + supernerd + fady + others that I can't think of right now, but I'm sure there's more!

If you're an Arts student you definitely can't do Democracy as breadth, it's part of IDF.

If you want humanities based breadth, check all the UNIB subject codes, there are a large amount there with humanities incorporated into them
