Hey guys
I am going to be studying Unit 1&2 Literature this year, and I was wondering if anyone could answer a few questions I have
- Is there an exam for Year 11 lit?
- What do your assessments in Year 11 contribute to your ATAR and study scores?
- What kind of results do you get back at the end of unit 1&2?
- Is Literature usually scaled up or down, and by how much?
- Any advice for a VCE newbie?
Thanks in advance ^.^
First of all, well done for choosing Literature.

Hopefully you'll enjoy it.

Ok, so no there isn't a Year 11 Literature exam officially but your school, like mine, may have internal exams which contribute to your school report, but do not go to VCAA to contribute to your study score. You also have SACS throughout the year which contribute to your Unit 1 and 2 marks. These marks are, in my opinion, really just for you to know where you stand and show you what you're doing right and wrong.
For Unit 1 and 2, you only receive a satisfactory or Unsatisfactory mark, and it is this mark that goes to VCAA. So you either just pass or fail. The marks you get throughout the year determine whether you get a satisfactory or unsatisfactory. You need a satisfactory mark to be able to do Literature 3&4. This is the only contribution your 11 assessments have- they determine whether you can do Liter 3&4, but don't directly contribute to your ATAR or study score.
Literature does get scaled up by 1.

For advice, well, honestly, enjoy your texts because otherwise, it'll seem like a chore. Also, take it easy and don't stress yourself out too much. Try and develop the skills you need for 3&4 literature so you're well prepared for the next year- increase your vocab and analytical skills, etc. For literature, you really have to look at the author at work, so while reading your texts, think about what the author is doing to give a certain impression. eg, specific word choices which give a certain impression and the structure of chapters, paragraphs, etc.
Good Luck!
