Subject Dux?

Is there such thing as the Subject Dux?

There is the overall VN Braniac with pinky stars right?

Maybe we could have an individual subject dux title with whatever colour/amount of stars.

There would have to be a minimum of say 5 people in the subject for some sort of competition.

Also for populated subjects like Methods there has to be an outright winner (ie-one 50) or if there are two or more 50s, there will be no dux for the subject unless they have their SoM's so a comparison can be made.

Also there should be a minimum post count (say 100?) otherwise 50-ers will just come in and try to claim the title!

I think VN Brainiac was discontinued... (the stars are now gone). see here for the ranking history (since I've been a member)

Its an idea, but usually there would be at least 2 or 3 for each subject, and making people pay for their SoM would be a bit unfair...

That's bad - I thought VN Braniac was great!

Of course you wouldn't force someone to pay for SoM...as I wrote there would be no dux for that subject UNLESS all the people in question have their SoMs. And not many people get 50s as regular members (hence the enforced post count)...meh, just an idea :)

I think having a dux for every subject would be too much work for too little reward (if any). Having a thread for subject duxes would be sufficient IMO, instead of actually naming members with the tag under their username. But ATAR, good idea!

It would also probably be enough incentive for people to lie about their study scores. I mean...how would make sure? Can you be absolutely certain that the study scores I put in my signature are true?
The other issue is the long-standing concern of hierarchy on the forum. Perhaps people won't help out as much and instead wait for these "duxes" to come in. Besides...what would be the point of this anyways?

Herald Sun.

There is no hierarchy in acknowledging those who have mastered their subjects.

What is the point of the karma system? Nothing - "it's just a bit of fun."

Herald Sun doesn't prove anything. You can't verify my identity. You can merely find a person who matches the scores in my signature...whether that person is the person behind a username is a different thing. You bring up Karma, but Karma comes under the same argument for having a hierarchy issue and many people wish to get rid of it.

...yet it wasn't gotten rid of - I really don't think having a Subject Dux is going to create a hierarchy, it's simply acknowledging those people's efforts who have achieved a great score!

What type of idiot would lie about their identity and claim a dux prize? Certainly not someone with over 100 posts and who is known as I wrote in my original post. Herald Sun shows full name and school which the person will provide and if your really that pedantic you can ask for the address and track it with the IP address that gets logged. That should be plenty of verification.

That's why the Top Achievers thread exists.

Then you just lead right back to this.

I think having a dux for every subject would be too much work for too little reward (if any).

You really wouldn't think that Karma would create a hierarchy...but it clearly has enough effect to require an admin thread about it.
I think the underlying fact is that your idea has been tried before and removed, and everybody seems to think it's unnecessary. That should be enough indication to say that it isn't a great idea. I for one don't find the need to have my efforts acknowledged by such a thing...I'm not so egotistical to care to want a specific title.

I never said that you contested Werdna. I merely bring it back up as a good point. And you can't really call my post unnecessary just because I was expressing my views against your proposed idea...

Your post's meaning was identical to werdna's hence unnecessary.

Clearly there seems to be no significant advantages to this suggestion.
