Dropping Psych to do Further

This would mean that I'm doing three maths, which I'm a bit hesitant about. So if anyone has done that how did you handle it? and was it just an overwhelming amount of maths?

There's someone on this forum that did 4 maths...uni, speech, methods and further

Only problem is that only 2 maths can count in your top 4

Wow, that's a lot of maths :\

Only problem is that only 2 maths can count in your top 4

Yeah, I know that, but I don't want further to be in my top 4, I'm just after an easy subject that I won't get a lot of homework for :)

Lol whut? Your in your final year - there's no such thing as 'homework' - you should be doing as much as you feel like to achieve the best possible ATAR.

I'm biased because I love Psych but yeah, Psych's relatively easy aswell :smitten: :smitten:

I did just that, dropped psych (well really from 1/2 psych i went to 3/4 further so does that count?) and I have done all 3 maths
However I did do methods in year 11 so.. idk if my opinion will be valid.

Anyway if you chose 3 maths then it means you either like maths, or .. (??)
just work hard and its definitely doable.

I mean loads of people do both methods and spesh in year 12, and further is just an addon to that.

Further is not hard! The time spent studying will be much much MUCH less than any other subject (some people don't even decide to study for it - ie. me) and no it is not overwhelming if you enjoy math!

GL on ur choice

BTW i dropped psych for further SOLELY for the easy marks (i got 50 in further and i highly doubt i would get anywhere near that if i did psych) otherwise i would have kept studying psych (it was pretty interesting i guess)

If you're looking for an easy 30-35 SS without doing anything, then do Further. If you're doing Specialist and Methods you're obviously good at Maths so you'll probably get a high 30 or a 40 for Further anyway.

o.o That's... um. Cool.

My cousin did Spesh, Further and Methods - and Further was his worst raw score of the lot. Not sure if that means anything, but there you go.

I'd say keep psych unless you really hate it. Wouldn't you be getting just as much hw for psych as you would for further?

I can't speak for further but to get over 40 in psych you'll need to spend a lot of time learning a lot of concepts. So it's a very time consuming subject. Even for 35 or over you'll need to spend quite a bit of time on it because there's so many people who love psych and so will enjoy spending a large amount of time for it hence the competition increases. So I guess maybe do further. But wouldn't doing 3 maths leave you kinda sick of it? At least psych is really interesting + would give you a break from working with numbers..

I loved psych so much (did it in year 11) and our teacher was very strict on homework so we HAD to do it - there was so much comparatively to other subjects. So interesting though and would recommend it even for interest's sake! I got pretty much the same study score for further & psych, and I did zero homework all year for further, attendance rate was around 50% - it was truly the most boring/painful/easy subject ever. Even if you are good at maths (I found all the maths I did at school to be fairly basic) I wouldn't necessarily recommend further unless you do the work since it's horrible.

Two of my friends did Psych & further, both of them got high 40s in further by doing HEAPS of practice exams and all their homework; also both working pretty hard at psych and one got high 30s the other got mid 40s. They had to put in heaps of hours for psych to get these scores as there was a lot to take in/memorise/learn, and didn't mind doing further work because it was so easy. Note that neither of them are actually that good at maths - one dropped out of methods in year 11, the other got low 30s with actually trying to do reasonably well (tutor, etc.)
