Are you talking about *every* QLD degree, or just psych?

MBBS in QLD is equivalent to Bachelor of Nursing in Victoria.

Tone it down, now you're just being a dickhead

You'd probably be best served to post in the general university discussion, since only UoM students read a thread called "fees" in the UoM subforum.

My mate's transferring from Biomed at Melbourne to dentistry at UQ.

Wow, that's awesome. I didn't know you could do this (not that I'm interested in doing dent). Did they have an amazing GPA?

Fairly good, but I don't think you'd need a fantastic one. We just give him shit now for cutting his losses and jumping ship. :P

Oh ok. You're doing biomed too?

Do you know if the biomed core subjects marked on a bell curve, or if they allocate like a certain number of HDs for each exam/assessment?

Nah, I do science.

The uni keeps that sort of information (how subjects are ranked, what subjects are counted in weighted averages for particular uses, etc) really close to their chest. VCAA fucked up epically when they decided to become transparent with their methodology, letting every muppet in the land bitch, whine and argue about how this and that is used.

From memory, science subjects are bell curved and arts subjects are raw marks. I was told that a while ago but I don't know if it's true. Just study hard so you pass. :P

Hahah, I'd heard the opposite, that arts subjects are bell curved and science are closer to raw marks.

I think every subject has some amount of adjusting going on - when I requested my results for a subject last year, I was told that one of the marks was due to an adjustment.

And re: Biomed, it depends. They don't have a certain amount of H1s (Dawn Gleeson is fond of saying they want everyone to get an H1) but they do try to shape students to fit a rough normal distribution. When they mark your 10mark long responses, they're aware that there should be the same amount of 10s and 0s

Just checked today. It depends on the subject and the semester. Subject head might scale everything one semester and give raw marks the next.

Yeah that is true, my Bmed friend told me that Physics was scaled last semester but not everything is.
But Arts is always a bell, they draw one on the whiteboard every first tute.
My mark was scaled down in an Australian Politics essay.  I have the faint erased pencil mark to prove it!  In another class they told us our essays would take another week to mark due to 'moderation'.
