I'm letting you all know now, by the time February 2008 rolls around, I would like to have a full complement of staff. I believe that one of the main draws of FSN will be having a friendly and helpful face for each and every subject under the VCE sun.
What does this mean?
Moderators for most, if not all subjects. These moderators will be selected on the following criteria*:
1. A willingness to help out in your special subject.
2. Attaining an appropriate score to give advice and help answer questions (for this criterion, 40+ would be the target although maybe a little lower for harder subjects such as languages)
3. Being a generally nice and accessible person.
4. Activity.
5. Literacy. You must be able to make complete sense in your post. Do not use "u" or "ur" in place of the one second it would take to type out "you", "your" and "you're". Spelling isn't so important if it's a big/foreign word - we're only human. But if you show on the forum that you cannot communicate expressively and clearly, you will NOT be hired.
*Please note that not all criteria must necessarily be met for selection, but if you have all 4 down, you're almost a shoe-in.
What will be expected of Moderators?
- About 20 minutes, minimum, per day of activity. It's not asking too much. I know a lot of the people I hire will be in university and this minimum will also be waived during their own exam periods, but if you do wield power on my forum I would like you to be active with it.
- Answer a few questions. Answering every question that every little person puts forth is a little much to ask and we have a great many normal members who are more than helpful. But for the big questions or ones that are of importance, it would be nice for the community to know that there's someone out there watching their backs. That is what I am striving for with FSN - a community environment where we're all helping each other. Yes, call me a radical socialist commie lunatic. I don't care!
- Stickying announcements, highlighting online resources for people. etc. Follow AppleXY's example. There's a reason why he's the Business moderator. He's dedicated! He stickies useful links, he cleans up his forums, and is always willing to help where he can! It's not required that you go out and search for this stuff, but it all helps and would be greatly appreciated.
What you get in return
- The immense satisfaction of knowing that you wield the banhammer
- Community respect
- At SOME point, POSSIBLY (and no promises here) a rewards system that I have yet to devise. But there are plans for it.
Also...
- Please don't ask for moderator. It will only hurt your chances.
