Real world examples for Identity and belonging?

Any ideas? Any real world examples from like the media or anything would be great. I'm having trouble thinking of some myself x.x

Depends on the prompt.   Culture and pollitics could be useful - for instance, talk about how the early American's identity would have been founded upon his being part of a democracy and his being a free person.  Early white Australian settlers and their national identity as "rebels" (convicts) also works (and think about how they glorified figures like Ned Kelly).
