GPA calculation

I'm doing biomed and im in second year and i was wondering if anyone knows how subjects are weighted (GPA calculation) for entry into postgrad med.

for example, if I did a level 1 subject in my third year would it be weighted 3 times?? so does weightings depend on what year you do the subjects in or the level the subjects are?

thanks

You haven't read the ACER handbook - you really should, because it will answer every question you have. There's a table in there for converting your percentage marks to GPA grades and then for calculating an overall GPA from those. And FYI, if you apply for 2013 med in 2012 then your 3rd year may/may not be included in your overall GPA

They said that the weighting of subjects for GPA was based on the level of the subject not the year it was completed in.

Weighted averages are based on the level of the subject, but GPA might be different.

Wow. Didn't know that. I wonder if your GPA is calculated using your weighted average?

GPA has no relation to WAM, they're two different systems. I suppose UoM could be changing the system for 2012...safest thing to do is ask them again in a few months

edit, I asked this morning and he confirmed it was year studied not level of subject

Yep, this.

The safest thing to do is just to pick what you like and study hard. The uni will never give you a reliable answer as to what is and isn't counted, so assume everything is.
