So why do we say:
If we are trying to find the mol of S in SO4, why do we say n(S)=n(SO4)

so does that men we can say that n(Ba)=n(BaCl2)?/

THanks

For the second question yes that is true.

It is because in SO4, there is 1 mole of S^2- (sorry about the notation lol) and 4 moles of O^2-
Therefore the number of mole of Sulfur = the number of mole of sulur(sulfide?) in SO4

The same goes for say H2SO4 (sulfuric acid)
The number of mole of H+ is 2, for S is 1 mole and for O is 4 mole.
Therefore to find the n(H) it is 1/2 x n(H2SO4)

I hope this makes sense. :)

Teachers often introduce the mole idea with this:
If you have one bike, you have two wheels.
So if you have one mole of bike, then you have two mole of wheels.
An SO4 (sulfate) has one sulfur and 4 oxygen
Therefore, if you have a mole of sulfate, you have a mole of sulfur. You will also have 4 mole of oxygen.
Think of the bike. :)

nah, hamburger wins hands down haha

or my personal one, a bowl of M&M's - it allows more than one colour/element :P
