Preparation of Aspirin SAC

Hey guys,

I have a SAC next Wednesday on the preparation of aspirin (pg.102 of the Heinemann Chem 2 Student book) and I'm meant to determine the % yield of aspirin.

So my question is: for my theoretical value which mass do I use for salicylic acid? The mass that was weighed in my actual experiment or just the 3g as indicated by the materials section?

Thanks guys :)

the mass you weighed would be my assumption; no point using 3g to find theoretical mass if you only have 2.9g

but still it shouldnt be too hard to get 3.00xxg hopefully

(edit for better wording)

Ask your teacher, they're marking it. If they won't tell you, I'd go with what your scales say.

Thanks guys. Our chem class argued with her for a bit and she finally admitted she was wrong. YAY
