URGENT - Catalyst for addition polymerisation?

Hi guys, first ever post on this site  :laugh:

Simple enough question, I need to know what catalyst(s) are required for addition polymerisation. It's not on the mindmap that people seem to be passing around on here, it just says "catalyst" in purple and doesn't actually say what to use.

I have a reaction pathways SAC tomorrow and would greatly appreciate an answer by then. Cheers.

I also have a SAC on chemical pathways tomorrow and my teacher has told the class that we do not need to know the catalyst used in polymerisation so I wouldn't worry about it.

Are there any good questions you've found on reaction pathways? Textbook doesn't seem to give much.

like,
how would you get from ethene to ethanol, for example.

AlCl3 I believe (is one possible catalyst)

(though most of them are not important for VCE. The three important ones are UV light for chloro substitution of alkanes, NaOH for hydroxy substition of chloroalkanes, and use of conc sulfuric acid for esterification)

(bio-organic pathways are not included)


Addition polymerisation in principle is easy, but the actual processes are quite complex. Catalysts used depends on the process employed (there are several possible processes), and you are not required to know what these are.
