Has anyone come up with a good way to remember the names of the different brain recording and imaging techniques (MRI, SPECT, PET etc) and what they do? I'm having trouble making it stick in my mind!
Thanks :)

For that sort of thing I favour writing it out as a table in big font and then sticking it on your wall

I use logic really..

..MRI = magnetic = no internal metallic devices

You can normally derive one advantage/disadvantage from the name and they barely ask for more than two.

Would they ever ask an extended answer (essay)  question on something like brain imaging techniques? and would the essay topic they give be broad (can write a lot about it) or constricting?

The chances of the topic being on brain imaging techniques is 0.1%.

The topic is broad. Very broad. The key question is - can you find out what you need to include? what are the examiners looking for?

i was like that as well i couldnt remember what did what etc

what made me remember was learning them by their differences, like which ones gave functional info and what are the ones that gave structural info, whether they need tracers or contrasts to show, the limitations= any technique that used magnet meant that one limitation is that cant be used if patient has any metallic objects such as a heart pacer, braces etc etc.

guess just try understanding it than memorising it because it gets more obvious i guess how they work and all that.
this was the first chapter we done and its a good chapter :)
