Hey guys,
I was wondering what was the best way to increase your vocabulary?
Do you think making a 'vocabulary book' would help?
Thanks

Yep, that's a solid idea if you go about it the right way.

I kept a list of words with their definitions and example uses that I came up with, last year. It was useful because normally during my reading I'd look up words but then quickly lose sight of their meaning because I didn't use them again. This helped rectify that.

Personally, I don't think it will unless you actually commmit yourself.
I've made two over the course of 4 years, probably with around 300+ words and example sentences for usage.
Barely even look at it, just too boring memorising stuff like that.
I think it comes best with reading, and occasionally you'll come accross an awesome word and you'll think "hey i'll use this from now on"

it's also very time consuming to make those books
If you can commit yourself, then definitely go for it, but know that it isn't the most 'fun' or 'quick' way of doing things

There's this book, 'Word power made easy' it's seriously the BEST way to increase vocab. It's like a vocab bible and I seriously suggest you read it. It's by Norman Lewis and it's a secret I hardly share with anyone. It's very repetitive but you don't feel like you're reading the same thing and you won't be able to put it down once you start.

When you read a novel, words you don't understand, search up, write in Microsoft word. For every novel/ essay/ article you read, you'll always pick up extra vocab subconsciously. These words will be weaved into your essay much more naturally than forced memorization. There is no easy way out.
About Philosophy

When I see a youth thus engaged,—the study appears to me to be in character, and becoming a man of liberal education, and him who neglects philosophy I regard as an inferior man, who will never aspire to anything great or noble. But if I see him continuing the study in later life, and not leaving off, I should like to beat him - Callicle

I just Google - 'insert word here' + Thesaurus

Always comes up with something good, my recent favourite, animosity instead of hate!

“We are all alone, born alone, die alone, we shall all someday look back on our lives and see that, in spite of our company, we were alone the whole way. I do not say lonely -- at least, not all the time -- but essentially, and finally, alone. This is what makes your self-respect so important, and I don't see how you can respect yourself if you must look in the hearts and minds of others for your happiness.”
