Priority of a Certain Number of Subjects- Good or Bad?

Hey guys,

Is prioritizing the subjects which you think will be part of your top 4 a good idea?
For example, I've got Chinese, and this year I am mostly focusing on English and 2 other subjects which I enjoy the most/best at.

I am doing some work for my 5th Subject, basically nothing for my 6th.

Any advice?

'10: Chinese SLA [38]
'11: Legal Studies [50] | English [44] | Physical Education [41] | Psychology [31] + Methods
ATAR:97.85

'12: Monash University - Bachelor of Arts/Bachelor of Laws

If you're confident that the two subjects you enjoy will be in your top four then it's definitely better to focus on them.

Definitely not a bad idea, but as Romp said, make sure they are the right ones - otherwise it could be terrible.

Maybe see how your mid year goes, that could be an indication for that subject at least - also consider ranking/cohort strength

A friend of mine suggested I do this and she got an ATAR ~98 so not a bad idea!

It's what I'm doing. Focusing on Economics, International Studies and English and just leaving Further Maths and Literature for in class work (virtually no at home revision except for the night before sacs). But you need to put some level of effort into your bottom two. I'm aiming to get 35 in both of them still.

p.s. I should probably add that this is the one method that my school singled out as what we shouldn't do at the end of last year :P

I prioritised English and spesh - spending about 80% of my study time on them. They were my two lowest raw and scaled scores. Huzzah! Good idea to do so regardless of my experience though :P

I think it's a good idea - let's face it the bottom two won't affect your ATAR nearly as much as the top four.
That said, allow room for your priorities to shift. For example, at the start of the year I was planning to work harder for Bio and have Chem in my bottom two - but after SAC results and completing most of unit 3 I am finding Chem a hell of a lot easier so I'm going to focus on that instead and have Bio in my bottom two.
So, have priorities but don't be afraid to change them through the year. My priorites now are nothing like they were at the start of the year...

I'm kinda prioritising against Physics atm (bio is also definitely in my bottom 2 too). I don't see any negatives, and increase of 1 in spesh is going a lot further than an increase of 3 (ie 0.3) in physics.

Unless you're aiming for 99.9 + definitely prioritize your top 4
vce: english, methods, spesh, chemistry, physics, geography.
