Chemistry Exams as Revision
« on: May 15, 2011, 11:46:33 am »

So this morning as the first step to start off my chemistry revision I did the 2008 VCE exam, which is probably the easiest exam of the three. And I was just wondering what would be an adequate mark be at this point, or for that exam (A+ was 87% or 68/78)? I mean obviously we're trying to aim for 95%+ by the time we get to the exam in a month's time. But at this point, what mark can I/ should I be getting on a practice paper.

If you have just started, then I think 70-80% is really good

Wouldn't recommend doing VCAA first though=\

I would start with Insight, Neap (and maybe Lisachem) first off just to get the ball rolling.

Around this time I would be content with a B+ mark, you should be able to reach an A+ level within 10 exams' time
vce: english, methods, spesh, chemistry, physics, geography.

whats % constitutes A+ level?
It differs every year, see the Grade Distributions for more details. Usually for Chem though, it's about 85-90% roughly

My schools up to chapter 12 (Only done about 10 minutes of theory on fats :P) , should I start practice exams even though we haven't finished the course yet? And if so, should I just skip the questions relating to chapters 12/13/14?

I wouldn't do exams until I completely finish the content, but in the mean time why don't you start finishing checkpoints, NEAP revision book..( If you have) or even do old exams pre 2008 that are relevant to your course.

Exactly :P

And as for people saying they may wanna write notes before doing exams - when you find a book that covers all of the material tested in the exams, let me know.

On a sidenote,
1) Why do esters with higher molecular weight have a weaker fragrance?
