Has anyone done this subject or know much about it? Id like to know more about it in terms of workload, difficulty and interest, maybe other things haha. I'm doing the other bio but just need to pick up another first year science subject..

Thanks

Can't help you much here but I can say that I've looked through the handbook before and this subject pricked my interest. If you're genuinely amazed by nature then it'll be pretty intriguing (derr). Also think about whether you're a fan of molecular Biology or if you're more interested in the broader picture.

Plants are cute :)

Don't tell me Biology of Cells & Organisms is a plant-bashing subject?

there is quite a lot of plant focus in it, soo bad. i hate plants ><

awh so perhaps this will have a huge plant focus?
i dont mind adaptations plants have in certain environments, but most of the plant stuff we did this semester sucked.

Given the name it is inevitable it will have a huge plant focus. Looking at the objectives just makes it more likely. Personally, there is no way I would ever take this subject

Given the name it is inevitable it will have a huge plant focus. Looking at the objectives just makes it more likely. Personally, there is no way I would ever take this subject

"knowledge of the evolutionary history of the Australian biota, and the influence of past changes in geology, climate and soil;
an appreciation of the great diversity and genetic resources of the Australian biota;
knowledge of the structure and physiology of native plants and animals in relation to surviving in Australian environments;"

It seems a lot different to what we did in first semester biology though, unless I'm just an idiot and its the same haha. I don't know what to do.. It's either this or mind,brain&behaviour 2 - i'd prefer not to do any more psych labs, i did pretty bad in my lab report for biopsych and would prefer not too repeat that!
this seems kind of dry though.. heh

What sort of plant stuff did you do?
all the basics i guess.. hormones, plant structure - indepth look at the cells of plants and different systems for water/sugar transport, etc. pretty boring imo..

Hows creative writing vexx?

good! i didnt realise it was scaled though, so its almost impossible to get H1 (only the number of people that fail get it.. and its pretty hard to fail) but still been getting high 70s for both assessments which is good :) i really like it, and its forcing me to write so im happy with that.

the tutor told us, what they do is the basically line up all the assignments from best to worst ranking them and then give almost all around H3 and less and less (a bell curve) to the other side, with hardly anyone getting H2A-H1. so im happy with how ive been doing :)
umm quite a few arts subjects are scaled, they will tell you.. and some assignments in others. my biospysch lab report was apparently..

Dude there are so many better Arts subjects you could take that aren't CWRI!  I'M SORRY BUT IT'S TRUE.
But yeah, they're /all/ scaled, including Psych essays.  TUFF.  SUCK IT UP WORK HARDER.

A lot of people didn't get H1s when I was doing Arts for the same reason, but considering the scaling you have to put in a lot of work to get one.  Like, I would work for weeks on end, I would start writing a 2000 word essay four weeks before it was due.  If you have that commitment, you can do it, or if you just write a really good essay but if you want consistent H1s that's pretty much what is required.
