Equal rankings?

So if you are ranked first is there a lot of pressure on you to do well on the exam? i.e. if you stuff up does your whole cohort suffer?

So if one of the students in question recieves full marks on his/her exam and the other recieves 90%, then the 90% exam score will be used to moderate their ranking? That does seem a little strange.

But now I think about it, if only the top exam mark was used to moderate the equal first ranking then teachers could just give every student the same internal mark.   :D

In a subject like English (with a large cohort) it would be quite common for students to have the same internal ranking. Do you think it's common for 'distinct ranknigs' to be made here?

Thanks again.

your stuff-up will mean the next person will suffer, but not so much the cohort

as for the equal ranking, they take the average rather than the lower score. This is a direct disincentive for ANY teachers in ANY subjects to give equal rankings, as the higher achieving student will be disadvantaged.
your teachers will most likely use other things such as tests, practice exams and other work to use as an indication so separate similar performing students in case of the same ranking.

Hmm, do you think all teachers know that vcaa will use the average?
My school is a bit *cough* not so well informed, and teachers aren't that great...so i'm a bit worried :(
I'm so scared that my teacher will go, 'wow, these 4 students are all doing quite well, i'll give them ALL the top mark' ...LoL

Ahmad:
I've been told they use the lower score. Can anyone find a link to it on VCAA. :)
