I'm doing a feature article and I'm wondering about how I should incorporate the Rugmaker either, directly or indirectly (refer to afghan war, conflict in afghanistan...etc)?

Regards

A census taker once tried to test me. I ate his liver with some fava beans and a nice Chianti.

You can explicitly refer to Rugmaker, and then follow it up with a reference on the Taliban, Afghanistan conflict etc. Or you can just choose one to focus on, it is up to you.

ah, thanks. Does the article's persona, title and publisher impact heavily on the marking?

No, I wouldn't think so. As long as it is appropriate, in that it fits the content and style of your writing, it should be fine.
