GAT writing tasks

I was wondering, for the first writing task where you are given a whole of info about some random thing, can you:

a) write an imaginative/creative story that incorporates the information; or

b) write an interesting documentary type of thing (with David Attenborough's voice in my head)

This is the criteria:

Quote
Writing task 1 will present written and graphical information in colour. The task will be to write a piece that presents the main information in this material. Students should not present an argument. Remember the writing is being assessed, not the extra knowledge students may have about the material. Students’ writing will be judged on:

-how well they organise and present their understanding of the material
-how effectively they communicate the information
-how clearly they express themselves.

As much as i can see, there are no restrictions on either (a) or (b); but my school says we shouldn't be writing any stories...

Apparently we have to mention Rebecca Black this year ???

Haha TBH I think it would be hard to incorporate all the info into a story and it still be, well, a story.

It would probably go like this (going off last year's GAT):

Person #1: Hey, I'm interested in deep sea diving. Any thoughts?

Person #2: Well, the ocean has approximately 5 levels to it containing different kinds of organisms in each... the first submarine was invented in 1XXX and it was invented by Mr X and it works like this!

Person #1: .....

I'd go with option (b) or a boring essay.
