Eraseable pens

I thought this might interest some of you guys

I emailed the VCAA regarding erasable pens, and here's what they sent me.

Dear Cohen

Thank you for your email.  Erasable pens can fade if the conditions are hot, so it might be best to write in pen.  If you make a mistake, just cross it out and keep writing.  If you cross out neatly, your work will still be clearly legible.

With best wishes for a very successful 2011,

Jo Reidy (for the Exams Mailbox)

Called up VCAA about 2B pencils and such. They said that you can use a pencil if you want BUT if it doesn't show clearly when scanned or if it is smudged and becomes illegible then you cop the consequences.

Better not risk it then. I wouldn't.

Doesn't specify that it needs to be 2B. In the 2011 exam cover, on the multiple-choice answer sheet it just says "USE PENCIL ONLY". I don't think it matters what type of pencil you use; as long as it's pencil.

What would happen if you used pen? The scanner thing (or whatever it is) wouldn't recognise the shading would it?

Zzz cos my teacher said that using a pacer with 2B lead would be perfectly fine. Ahhh what to do.

I'm uncomfortable with writing in pen. All the calculations and such! I've done all my practice exams in pencil, so I think I'll go with writing in pencil and hope the scanner picks everything up :D

I even scanned some pages off my exams with my scanner just to see how it would turn out. Unless VCAA use some outdated technology, I don't see how pencil wouldn't show up to be honest...

As for the smudging, make sure you rub out all of it. don't try fix it half way, it doesn't look good :P

@Vincezor
Apparently they use a black and white scanner to scan the exams. And "supposedly" thats what causes the pencil to become illegible

i'm pretty sure they will be using coloured scanners, it would be a pain in the ass for the examiners to mark papers in black and white in the first place
