company revision lectures

so in another few months i'm going to have to make that decision to go to a revison lecture or not for my subjects. there are heaps of companies out there which all have their good and bad points, so how do you know which is the right lecture for you?
as much as you can ask people who have gone before, there are always so many contrasting views which can be very confusing. more specifically i cannot decide what company revision lectures are best suited for IT apps, chemisry and physics. is it even worth going to lecture for subjects like methods and physics? and does general advice in english lectures really help that much?

sorry heaps of questions here i know but i am so confused  ???

btw i know that the best practice you can do is heaps of past papers but i would just like to go to a revision lecture to reviw the entire course to refreshen the memory

Never heard of lectures for I.T apps, but there are chemistry and not quite sure of physics. In my opinion I wouldn't go to a english lecture unless they talk about the context you're doing and the books you are studying, otherwise I'd think its best to see your teacher to give you the best advice and revision.

General English revision lectures aren't that great, unless you want a full-on run down of the course and what's required.. It's better to just book specific lectures for your context (I've seen these are available) or text response novel (not sure if there are actual lectures for this). I think the General lectures give some good info on Language analysis though...

As for chem and physics, not too sure about physics, but a lot of my friends who attended the TSFX lectures for chem said they were really good

In general most are rubbish except for http://connecteducation.com.au/

^ Definitely worth attending for Chemistry!

If you're looking for Physics the guy from TSFX is actually pretty cool (the only lecturer from there that I like). As for IT Apps there might be small companies doing it, but I'm not too sure. What you can do is hire a past student to tutor you for maybe 2 2.5 hour sessions before an exam, and generally if they are experienced they should be able to help (Y)

edit:
now that connect has hopped on physics as well go to that :D

I went to the TSFX midyear lecture in 2009, and my friends and I considered leaving early because the detailed study session was so pointless. In retrospect, TSFX seemed decent for mid-range/low-range students - a lot of the questions asked by students were pretty straightforward, and the major benefit was the notes. I didn't go to any other TSFX lectures after that because I felt as though my time was better spent studying myself, and the cost didn't seem worth it.

For IT Apps
swinburne will usually hold like a revision lecture for IT Apps, not sure how it is though apparently it was decent...
BUT one of the questions on their practice paper last year, turned out to be on the exam, and i used the same solution and got 0 marks for the question.

another company, VITTA also does one, they are pretty terrible though...
i guess you could give both a try, there is no harm

if i forked out $100 for TSFX revision lecture for bio, i would have got one extra mark. But i blame myself, out of all the ridiculous questions i asked on VN, i did not ask one of the few glaring holes in my knowledge

You dumb ass such a disgrace you know nothing about bio

Similar here. Last year at physics lectures me and my mates found it worthwhile though, we had a lot of comedic material... people asking why g is negative in projectile motion questions, someone who starts talking about kinetic and static friction when not only is it not on the course but 100% completely irrelevant to the question. Didn't learn anything other than getting a massive ego boost.

Swinburne do a free 1 hour ITA lecture in Term 4 (IIRC last year's was on the evening of the last day of school). It was very good, but 1 hour was too limited. If I had had that teacher I think I would have actually done well in the subject.

I've heard the TSFX one for psych is lousy from one of my friends who went last year. But I know the guy doing the psych lecture for Connect Ed, I'd recommend going to that one.. :P

It may provide a distraction for some students ;)
