Motivational theories

Any discussion on motivational theories can go here.

I have a question. For Herzberg's motivational theory, why are 'Maintenance factors' also described as 'hygiene'?

I get why 'Motivational factors are called 'satisfiers' but not the 'hygiene' one.

Herzberg called them hygiene factors because they prevent dissatisfaction only when present instead of increasing satisfaction; just as hygiene prevents disease only when present rather than increasing well-being.

They include:
-Company policy and administration
-Supervision
-Working conditions
-Interpersonal relations(co-workers)
-Company Policies
-Salary
-Status
-Job security

I think I did it in health, not 100% sure though.

Daniel08:
I think Maslows theory is the best one and easiest to know/learn.

Should we only focus on one? In past exams they usually have a general question e.g. identify a motivational theory... instead of explain Maslows theory of motivation or Herzberg etc

Are you learning them all or focusing on one????
