No Guarantees, but the follow bits of advice won't hurt your chances

(a) not trolling
(b) doing ace in a particular subject and helping others in it
(c) sucking up to enwiabe
(d) not asking to be a moderator or how to be a moderator

  Be active, intelligent, helpful, and asset to the forum. Be innovative, although moreso like Brendan than droodles. Attain one of the best scores among potential candidates if you want to moderate a subject forum. [Brendan and Odette prove it's possible to become a Global Moderator even without releasing your results.]
And don't jeopardise your chances by being a braggart, appearing at all illiterate [although internet-speak is accepted], or have a bad tempered dispute with enwiabe. Mocking him is ok, several current mods do; I wouldn't advise "sucking-up" at all, actually.

 
    .....Oh yeah, and don't ask for it :P

As an administrator on a rather large forum, I can say that asking to be a moderator can accelerate your path to becoming one, provided 1) there is a need for more moderators 2) you would be a good candidate anyway
