Is anyone else studying this text?  How are you finding it?

Personally I am enjoying this text quite a bit, but I find that writing topics based around characters (like Gradgrind's change throughout the novel) does not allow for much depth.  I feel that I'm just retelling the story of what happens to Gradgrind!

I'm hoping for a Fact vs Fancy topic on the exam.

Feel free to post any thoughts you have on the text here :)

Yeh I'm doing it for the exam...theme essays on this book are great IMO; really gives a chance to show off given how broad the novel is. And yeh, character essays kinda suck though, especially compared to the potential available in a theme essay =P So yeh, lets all hope for a fact/fancy essay and it'll be all cool :]

Bounderby is a figure that constantly supresses the Hands from becoming worthy of more than their appendages.

eg. Stephen Blackpool wan' be ridded of woman (because he can't take her shit anymore).
Bounderby's like SCREW YOU MAN! That shit is like wanting to be 'set up in a coach and six, and to be fed on turtle soup and venison, with a golden spoon.'

As a summary, Bounderby views the Hands as a greedy bunch of suckers who are just greedy.
