Business Management Examples Request Thread

Thought starting one of these would be helpful so I'll get the ball rolling. If anyone else has any requests, just chuck em up here and I'll try and help, and I assume others will too =T
  • A company which uses a functional organisational structure
  • " divisional structure
  • " matrix structure
  • " bureaucratic structure
  • " organic structure
  • " network/virtual structure
  • An example of a company's real corporate culture
  • An example of a company who uses an autocratic/persuasive/consultative style<---might be a bit hard since they're not clearly defined nor constant
  • Examples of how organisations motivate and empower employees and strategies etc.
  • Examples of effective and ethical termination management (exit counselling/setting people up for a next job etc)
  • A company which is world's best practice in something

Thanks in advance =T

I don't mean to hijack this thread but I have trouble identifying the organisational structure of an organisation. Does anyone else have this problem?

The case studies tend to be quite explicit about it so I haven't really had any issues yet. As for real life examples however, yeh, it does get a bit more complicated since they often don't tend to easily fit into our theory.

Yeh especially for real life LSO's I tend to think that there is a bit more to their structure than just being functional or divisional. I tend to think most LSO's would have a matrix model but that could just be due to a misunderstanding on behalf of the matrix model.

I don't think its really a case of matrix model in real life, but to me (with my limited understanding of fat corporations), probly more along the lines of functional models within divisional models layered on top of one another several times. E.g. You'd have a separate accounting department in Australia than in the US, so it might branch divisionally into Australia/US, then within Australia, branch functionally into accounting/IT/etcetc. Anywho, examples anyone? =T

Most large organisations would use a combination of both functional, divisional and matrix. You would probablly see the matrix model within a film production company EG) Roadshow Entertainment - teams working on different movies/productions ect??

Real culture = http://www.smh.com.au/news/biztech/fired-for-being-an-old-fuddyduddy/2007/10/09/1191695903315.html

Examples of how companies motivate: I know that PwC provides really cool rewards to help keep staff motivated - $'000s worth of Flight/Holiday vouchers, iPods.. etc. So you can basically use any organisation for this and just expand on the extra items that they would provide to staff in order to keep them interested within their job and working life.

Recruitment, Selection, Induction - http://www.computerworld.com.au/index.php/id;1762186985;fp;2;fpid;1

(Not sure if you would use this example in exam responses but it is good article to read - I do think it's necessary to have an example of an organisations training/induction program)

On the topic of recruitment, selection and induction, what do you guys call the first part of the Employment cycle? I call it the Establishment phase (including HR planning, job analysis and specification, recruitment, selection) while I have heard others call it the Recruitment and Selection phase and include induction within it? (I normally put induction in the maintenance phase)

Yeah I call it the establishment phase aswell. As for induction I put that under the establishment phase as it only occurs once when the employee initially joins, right?  :-\

establishment phase

induction in maintainance as employment has already been established , although I have heard they accept induction in both phase.

additional info: i think i remember someone asking this question at VCTA lecture and they said it can be either. jayden should be able to clear this one up. Once again though, i woodnt get too worked up over which one is correct because im sure they wood be aware that some books put it in establishment and others put it in maintenance
