Depends. In your typical 2-beaker set up, that's not what the salt bridge is for.

In your compact battery, the salt bridge also acts as the barrier, effectively creating two compartments. The important thing with galvanic cells is that the reactants cannot physically meet, otherwise heat will be released, rather than electrical energy.
