melanie.dee:
right. everyone add an interesting word or phrase and give a little definition in french or english.. like similar words etc.
so we can expand our vocabulary before tomoro and i can trick myself into thinking im studying!
un canular - a hoax. what a useful word! baha
bec:
claquer la porte = to slam the door
haha for some reason that comes up in all my essays....
melanie.dee:
ahaha interesting essays they must be!
c'est le bordel! regarde ce bordel etc - it's a pigsty, complete mess, look at that mess etc etc
but its not the politest way of saying it ha, bordel literally means brothel. so er its a bit slangish maybe dont use it in any essays haha
bec:
bordel means brothel??? i never knew that!
haha how funny is it when you use a word that you don't know is "innapropriate"...d'egeulasse, for the record, is not a good word
i went on exchange to france last year and on my second day there i had afternoon tea chez a new friend and said to her mum (trying to sound respectful), "Je vous remercie pour la bouffe". "thank you for the grub."
anyway, other vocab....endosser (eg, "endosser de nouvelles responsabilites") means to "take on"[/list]
melanie.dee:
hhaha yeh it does.
i love the word degueulasse haha, although its a tad bit strong for some of the situations i use it it in hhah
bahahah at the bouffe thing. when i was first in france, i asked how to say i dont care as in i dont mind, up to you, and they told my "je m'en fous".. now while i dont care is used for both the angry kind of i dont CARE! situation and i dont mind, in french as i know now ahaha je m'en fous DOESNT mean the latter haha. i said it i think it was just to one of my host sisters friend they were like where do you want to go or something and i was like ohhhh "je m'en fous!" hahahaha and they were like  er no no no you cant say that there hahhahaha
anyway soupirer - to sigh
