"Nineteen Eighty Four is a parable for our own times." Discuss.

I would discard the above part 2 question. It is not a well-written question. Too much room for students to go off topic and go outside the text.

i thought the same thing. :-)

"The bleak setting of Nineteen Eighty Four reflects the bleak lives of the characters." Discuss.

That question is definitely one to write a practice essay on.

lol. I'm certain i'm going to write on 1984 for part 2. I will decide between 'Citizen Kane' and 'A Man for All Seasons' for part 1 once I see the questions. Also 'A Man for All Seasons' is my back up for part 2 if the 1984 question takes me by surprise.

Yeah, I agree. I read that while I was typing them up and I was like ??? :?  But I thought I'd put it up anyway :)

What do you mean you've only studied hamlet p1 and lantana p2?

If you know both these texts well enough, you should be able to answer most questions on them. So yes, I think you could do hamlet part 2 no problem.

hamlet demonstrates that the only way to succeed in a corrupt world is to adopt its values

Well, just don't restrict yourself. Maybe a part 2 topic about hamlet will come up in the exam which is absolutely perfect. Keep your options open is my advice

Lol, bit late I know, but I found some more 1984 topics :P

The citizens have no right to a personal life or to personal thought. How true is this of the society in 1984? Discuss.

"If you want a picture of the future, imagine a boot stamping on a human face - for ever." The future is set in 1984 and no-one can change it, not even Winston. Discuss.

"The Party seeks power entirely for its own sake. Power and conformity are paramount in 1984." Do you agree?

When writing in his journal, Winston thinks to himself that the only hope for the overthrowing of the Party lies in the proles. Are they to be Winston's saviour? Discuss.

"Do it to Julia!" Why does Winston betray Julia?

Room 101, the place where everyone meets his or her worst fear. In 1984, why is control so complete?

Winston loves Julia but doesn't see a long future with her. Why not?

"As soon as I saw you I knew you were against them." What does being against them achieve in 1984?

"It's the Golden Country. It's nothing, really. A landscape I've seen sometimes in a dream." The novel 1984 never reflects this view. Why?

"You will be fighting in the dark. You will always be in the dark." How true of this is Winston's life in 1984?

--------------------

I don't like those topics much tbh, and I don't know if they're part 1 or 2, but here they are anyway.

heres some man ones, they're just ones i made up haha but whatever

'Bolt's A Man for All Seasons illustrates that the sacrifice of one's integrity is often  precondition to success.' Discuss.

'The play A Man for All Seasons suggests that morality poses nothing more than "administrative inconvenience" on the path to success.' Discuss.

These are the type of questions I wanthahahha. I wish we could write our own essay topics :P
