Whats the difference between "show that" and "prove that" and "verify'?

From what I know, 'prove that' means you can only start on one side and prove to the other. You can't start with the expression they give you already and make LHS=RHS directly because that'd be assuming they're equivalent to begin with. On the other hand, 'verify' means you can just sub in numbers and make LHS=RHS. I'm not too sure about 'show that' because I've seen this used as both 'prove that' and also as 'verify', but in most cases, I'd stick with the typical proving method just to avoid losing marks.

Verify means you can use the result they gave you.

Prove means you have to start from one side to get to the other side.

'Show that', for VCE papers, is similar to prove. You cannot use the result they gave you. (In university papers, verifying will usually suffice for 'show that' questions.)

??? Show that is usually the same as prove that, in my experience. Although my exam papers rarely have anything other than questions to prove...
