I'm really stuck!

Hi, im a VN Newbie .. and i am really confused! :( I thought it would be great if someone could help me!
I have chosen my yr 12 subjects for 2009 but am not sure if i have chosen the right subjects.
I have just completed units 1 and 2 maths methods and history, both of which i am continuing. But my teacher has suggested that i do Specialist maths because i have done really well in methods. The problem is i can only chose between history and specialist maths for next year. I have been told that i will get a higher SS in Specialist Maths, but i enjoy History more!
Can someone please offer some words of wisdom? It would be very greatly appreciated!

Do you need a high ENTER? That plays a part in this.

Question is, how much have you enjoyed your maths and how much you have done well)

Specialist Maths scales far higher than History. But there's a reason for that. It is much harder than Methods.

In my opinion i think you should do history. You will already be doing methods and it may be to much to take on spec as well. Plus, history is awesome.

2008 | Media Studies [42] English [40] History Revolutions [40] Further Mathematics [39] Psychology [37]

2009 | Arts/Education [Secondary] - Monash Clayton.

If you truly enjoy history but specialist maths not so much, I'd recommend you do history. Studying wont be a chore and there's no reason why you cant get a good study score for history too (maybe with even more ease than specialist maths?)
Specialist maths is a lot harder than methods and even though you're doing good in methods, it might not be the same for specialist.

I made the mistake in choosing a subject that I didn't enjoy but it scales well and I've regretted it. Considering dropping it next year.

I'm guessing you can only do one cause they clash in the timetable? And my specialist maths do you mean general maths 1/2? (your going into year 11 right?)

Because of the timetable clash, I would do history but also take up general maths via distance ed and maybe get yourself a good tutor and then go onto spesh in year 12 not through distance, or you could just pick up spesh in year 12 because some schools don't even offer general maths, just spesh in year 12.

Yes they do clash! I have achieved around 95% for history and 90%+ for methods ...
and I am in yr 11 going onto year 12 in 2009

well if you enjoy maths aswell, then I suggest you do specialist maths and do history by distance education, causes you'd probably need more help from your teacher in maths.

Otherwise there are many humanties subjects which could probably satisfy your passion for history, such as international studies, politics, legal, philosophy... etc
Do spesh and take one of these as an alternative to history.

if you don't enjoy spesh but your just doing it for the marks, unless you want to break the 99s for a certain course, I'd just do history and drop spesh cause it is very hard and demanding

This is true, especially for people like me. My suggestion is it is better to do really well in a subject you know you're good at, rather than average in a subject that you have passion for, but do not enjoy as much. I guess the decision is really up to you...

90% in methods to me indicates that this person is pretty good at maths. I dont know how someone could hate maths and get 90% average in methods so therefore I think spesh wood be the best choice.

thank-you for all of your replies! i am leaning more towards Revolutions as i am familiar with its demands and enjoy the subject. too much maths might be very overwhelming

spec makes methods easier, alot... so ur really doing one and a half subjects if u do spec n methods.  a 30 in spec average.= 42, and newhere up from there = pwnage, how hard is it to get a 42+ in history? very.
