Urgent: The situation

In the last week four members (fairly well known and active) have deleted their accounts
cara.mel
droodles
BA22
bturvile

What the hell is going on?
Why is this happening?
I have my hunches and I know more people who want to delete there accounts. This site is moving too much towards BoS and I cant pick out whats the cause.
How do we stop the dwindling quality of this place becoming BoS-ish?

One extra thing, I think there is far too much Sweet nothings crap and im sick of this whole forums unread posts thing being random crap in sweet nothings. its annoyin as hell and this place now doesnt resemble a VCE community at all

I think there's a fair bit of useless posting outside of Sweet Nothings; posts that have basically no purpose at all. I still feel that this board has a lot more to offer than BoS, especially with the forums for individual subjects. But there's a lot more MSN-style chatter than previously (though this could well be down to the fact that everyone's on holidays and so aren't studying like crazy, unlike a month or two ago).

I don't want to point fingers , but I guess with a larger population, a forum is inevitably going to have an increase in lower quality posts. Or hopefully it's just a temporary thing; It's the holidays, people are at home, possibly lazy to go out and there's not much to do on the computer but to post on VN, resulting it to be more of a chat room than a e-bulletin. (But then again, there's the IRC for that..)

I've also realised an increase in posts such as the following:

Blah blah blah.
YEAH LOL I AGREE ;D

Enwiabe, try disable post counts :P See what happens then.

The VCE forum on BoS is actually pretty quiet the last time I checked. Anyway, it'd be a bummer if this place fell apart.

KILL THE SPAMMERS

Is it really that though?

I think half the problem is that there are now SO MANY threads which promote msn styled convo which u cant simply tell people off for.

Some are just random stupid "what colour hair do you have" crap.

WHATS THE BIG DEAL WITH WHAT COLOUR SOMEONES HAIR IS. Its ridiculous

I'm not saying people shouldnt be able to make threads. But just the ridiculousness of some of them is beyond belief. Fair enough a New years eve one. Maybe gives people ideas of what they should do for NYE but some are just overboard.(lol @ pun.... i think)

I don't see what the problem is. If you don't like the thread, don't read it. Simple

Do you think its convinient to scroll thru 50 or so "new posts in threads" to try and fine one thread which u actually want to read?

+1 on the pointless "Yeah I agree" thing (lolz, that's pretty hypocritical right there, but still)...

Yeah, the VCE forum on BoS is completely dead. But even the HSC sections there, which get more traffic than we do here, aren't as good in my opinion. However they do have a much much larger collection of fora which are basically Sweet Nothings x 9000.
(I still go on BoS occasionally but mainly for the ANU forum.)

You don't get it. It's not about whether liking it or not; This thread deals with the issue of an alarming (possible exaggeration) amount of people leaving due to the useless threads/pointless posts, not about the likability of them.

It's 4 people...

Caramel left for personal reasons, not so-called "post deterioration". Droodles MAINLY left because VCE was over.

If BA22 and bturville left over post quality, then I'm sad to see them go, but:

- People are still be helped in large numbers
- Spam posts are being targeted by moderation team
- VN is experiencing VERY large growth (roughly 2500 members in the last 3 months alone)

I don't think there is any urgent situation whatsoever. The spam problem has been recognised and targeted. Nothing is gained from such ludicrous panic-mongering.
