being selfish at this time of the year is justifiable. do you expect him to shave 2 hours out of his life right in between exams just so you can get your stupid notes? why don't you take a trip down to southeast victoria to pick them up yourself, it'll probably take just as long, only difference being you aren't in the middle of your vce exams. he is not obligated to return them to you as soon as you want them, according to him the terms were 'take as long as you like' so he is not in the wrong - he has said that he will return them WHEN HE CAN. I'd say that you are being more selfish by demanding them from him during this stressful period. If you like "learning", shouldn't you be seeking other resources, there are MUCH better ways to learn than to go over notes that you wrote a year ago. Which subject were they for anyway?

If I were in Mao's position I'd piss on the notes before returning them to you, you're being a bitch.

given the tone that my address was asked for, I will not, under whatever circumstances, reveal my address.

and thanks for the support man, but the general consensus of the wiser half of VN condemns that I am wrong, and I've already fallen down the rabbit hole, so let me take all the blame =] you don't have to follow me.

the book will be returned when I have the opportunity to. I cannot make a promise on the date, but if you are still insecure after all the continued repetition of my promise [which is really droning now], I will return them to you.

ALAS, tomorrow is the fateful EL exam which this very notebook was written for. Bid me the worst luck for being a thief.

I just think this is kinda silly.

1. Mao is going through exams, like you did, Caramel, and I'm sure you know how stressful they can be, and how little time he has even to make such a trip to see you/go to the post office. Further, he might need to go back to China urgently, but perhaps after his last exam, he will work something out and get it back to you asap.

2. While you picking it up from him is a generous offer, I can kinda understand his reluctance to give out his personal details and since you're so upset..

3. You lent your notes to him, and you were being very generous. I know it's difficult not knowing when you'll get them back, but ultimately, if he says he'll return them, he'll return them. He won't have any use for them after exams (kinda like you now but it's yours) and keeping them will be pointless. I highly doubt he'd do that to spite you either.

4. I don't think you should have publicly revealed it was him. If only it has fueled arguments and like bucket said, it doesn't help the situation. If anything, it should make Mao feel angry that you would publicly humiliate him like this, over something that's between you two, especially over the internet.

5. However Mao, in the end it IS Caramel's and she did put a lot of effort into it. If you say you're going to return them, make sure you do in the end and in the same condition that you received them.

6. There's no point calling each other 'cunts' etc, in the end it'll just breed more hate making Caramel want her book even more, and Mao more reluctant to reply or make an effort.

This is just starting to get people to disagree with each other, when in the end VCEnotes should be about helping each other out. :\

And to everyone else who's like "give it back nownownownow", Mao already stated that he can't do that, for reasons that we (as people who aren't directly involved) shouldn't need to know.
And to everyone else who's like "CARAMEL YOU'RE STUPID", you wouldn't like losing something you put effort in, either.

If you were in Mao's position and you did that, there'd be some pretty neat consequences :P

Are you going to specify a time frame at all? Before November 15 or after December 15?

It is completely ridiculous that this conflict has been made public. This will only serve to exacerbate the situation even further.

I think she felt that she was left with no choice because PMs and other forms of direct contact were ignored. Because of that, it's somewhat justifiable (it's by no means the best solution, but stepping through her frame of mind, it's reasonable).

Although, I dont get what Mao wouldn't reply to her PM's (assuming that what Mel said is the truth). If that was true, then it would sorta indicate to anyone that they might not get back their possessions. But I guess that now he has guaranteed that she will, she's got her answer through the public forum.

He has said he will, but with no timeframe or method of delivery. I have no way of knowing that this guarantee is worth anything.

That's true, a promise to return, at some indefinite date in the future, is illusory.

Mao is probably very busy at the moment and might not want to commit to a timeframe due to the possibility that he might not be able to stick to it due to events beyond his control. I trust that Mao will return the notes though.

Perhaps, as a compromise, you could just meet at a local library near where Mao lives to receive the notes. Then Mao wouldn't have to reveal his address and he wouldn't have to waste a lot of time travelling to wherever (he could even study at the library).

Dunno, just a suggestion? :P

I see it as relatively simple. It's caramel's property, she wants it back, and she has offered to pick it up (or go with the suggestion of meeting up at local library). That should be the end of it. The rest is really irrelevant.
