I believe this so called "schoolies" if a preposterous idea.
I for one am not impressed from the lack of maturity that those former students show.
It's just another event where future rapists, wife-beaters and criminals have the excuse to show ludicrous behavior.
Your opinion implies that schoolies shouldn't be held for that reason. My opinion is that yours is stupid, and you need to stop be a cynical grandpa. You're supposed to be 17.

i agree with bucket, methodsboy loosen up a bit and have fun. You live life once and you experience VCE graduation once so why not make the most of it. Btw, there are people who'd rather enjoy their summer holidays having a good time, partying, drinking etc then doing extra extra work which is not even relevant since VCE has finished, unless your a psychopath. And this does not mean restrictive to schoolies, i mean going out in general.

Oh yes and for the record, methods boy try not to use language that just doesn't flow. It just gets annoying and does not sound smart at all.

that is all.

BTW, am I a psychopath because I was working on things after VCE was done, and didn't go to schoolies?

Well depends, if you're doing work that has some value to it like assignment etc then no. But if you're doing work for the sake of work which is not relevant to uni, school or anything even though this is a time to relax then i would say so.

less arrests because qld has police everywhere during schoolies. you would have to be an idiot to do anything with the cops breathing down your neck the whole time. most people just wont end up going to qld in later years. it will be some other random beach. like my school is all going to torquay (hope i spelt it right) this year.

Unprovoked attacks get publicised because they draw attention of the media. Car accidents don't get publicised because they are so common, bland and boring.

My bet is the latter is actually more common though.

RD when you say coast are you referring to Philip Island?
If you were, were there a lot of schoolies there? (Just curious since I'm going down there this weekend)

just found this http://www.news.com.au/heraldsun/story/0,,24627512-661,00.html

"About 7000 Victorians are due to arrive on the Gold Coast for the official start of schoolies on November 22. At least 5000 will party at Lorne and Torquay, and up to 3000 teens are anticipated at Phillip Island."

As for schoolies in general, I agree with Eriny's assertion that 'getting wasted as some kind of rite-of-passage seems to be just another facet of Australian drinking culture.'
I think it's great to relax after Year 12 with friends, but I find the pervading fascination with 'getting wasted' quite disturbing. There is no moral justification for it-it's a prime example of senseless conformity. It's ingrained within youth culture, and in my opinion the very necessity of 'getting wasted' is not questioned enough by individuals today-in particular the long-term health consequences, but also the immediate effect on one's mental state.

I guess this demonstrates where Victorian would rather go... Anywhere except Victoria. :O Big surprise. :P
