F*** YEAH HARUHI
Well, the finale of the Haruhi Suzumiya relaunch aired in Japan overnight (Someday in the Rain), and after the episode completed, we were given a glimpse of....the upcoming move, The Disappearance of Haruhi Suzumiya!

What sucks about a movie is, it could be a long wait for subs (ie. until DVD).

Why did America nuke Japan, it's Amercia who shud be nuked for doing FUKN SHIT LIKE THIS. Take easily one of the best anime ever produced and make it into a film that you couldnt possibly make worse if you tried with all your might. Excellent, if they even try a gundam remake, >< (oh wait, transformers is bad enuff)

It doesn't sound that bad.  There's no way they could have the entire Death Note story in one film, and unlike the Japanese ones I don't think there's enough interest to demand two of them to complete a story.  Whilst keeping to the essence of Death Note, it has its own interesting take on the story  - in particular, it makes Light's character a lot more sympathetic - and to be honest I'm quite excited if it's going to be like this.

They are portraying the character as somewhat the opposite of Light Yagami, they change the names to westernised names, they dont have ryuk or misa. I wonder why they even dare to call it deathnote if it's only link to the original is that it has the deathnote. They might as well rename the book like they did for everything else so it's no longer called deathnote, otherwise I can see the Deathnote name being tarnished by this film.

Although the film hasn't come out yet, the script does seem to carry across Death Note's themes of the nature of justice, corruption through power, etc.  The scenarios are also very similar, and really the changes and omissions aren't that significant.  Ryuk would look corny on screen (look at the Death Note Live Action) and really serves no significance anyway.  Misa would be even more outlandish to a Western audience unless they changed her into a Paris Hilton-esque character, which would get backlash from fans anyway.

Guys, it's not going to be as bad as Dragonball Evolution; at heart, this is still Death Note, re-imagined.  If you're judging it already just based on the changed premises and situations, you might as well say Apocalypse Now is a crap adaptation of Heart of Darkness because it takes it all to the Vietnam War.

Your first paragraph is basically showing the flaws in making a live action, therefore, if they can't even incorporate the themes of deathnote because its a westernised live action, why do it? I could be wrong and this could be a blockbuster(definitely not likely), but im of the opinion that the only people intersted in this movie would have been people who know the deathnote series as it's unlikely that people who have never even heard of deathnote would flood to watch it. For the people who have seen Deathnote original, this can only be considered a downgrade (I havent seen it yet but Light Yagami = Luke Murray = Kind and willing to risk his life for others = fail).
